A Different Sunday Morning Shave | The Uncut Version

As a veterinary surgeon, I have often been abused, kicked, and bitten by my patients. Not for any grudge or hatred they bore me, but it was the only way they could react while being subjected to some of the painful procedures. A strong kick from a cow at the most vulnerable of parts can send any Vet flying out of the cattle shed. You’ll find more calluses on the shinbones of a Vet than on any international hockey player. Appu was a rather nondescript dog who stands out from among those who subjected me to such abuses. I’ve never seen a dog with such a sense of humor.

Deciphering the Sainik Lexicon

We were all part of a unique sub-culture as Sainiks. We had our own rituals, traditions, interactions and artifacts. We utilized opportunities as they came by, survived insurmountable challenges at great odds and communicated in ways no one else outside our sub-culture could possibly understand. The margin between success and failure was minimal at best. In the process, we created new derivatives of language that can be percieved as mysterious, amusing and nostalgic. The founder secretary of our OBA and one of the most illustrious Old Boys of all, PC Satish Chandran, (yes, the very same from All India Radio), passed away last night.
